Sanborn Fire Insurance Maps were used to assess fire insurance liability in urban areas of United States beginning in the 1860s. Modesto maps exist from the 1880s into the 20th century. Several California libraries have Modesto maps in their online collections. Many of the maps for Modesto in 1919 are below. The index is Map 1.
